|| About the Veterans of Foreign Wars
VFW traces its roots back to 1899 when veterans of the Spanish-American
War and the Philippine Insurrection founded local organizations to
secure rights and benefits for their service. These chapters were
merged in 1914 to form the VFW which was incorporated in 1918.
There are currently 1.4 million men and women who belong to the VFW.
About VFW Post 981
Arlington VFW Post 981 on October 5 1922 in Arlington Heights, IL., it is one of the
oldest VFW posts in Illinois.
Regular meetings take place the first Wednesday of every month starting at 7:00 PM
Post 981 has an active program of member outings, visits to VA
hospitals, and participating in events helping veterans and active duty
troops. We raise money for these causes through Poppy
sales and sales of caps and
stickers to the public. You can see us march in Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day parades in the
represent (Newsletters & Post Activities).
Our color guard participates in various activities that honor fellow
veterans and our country. See the link below as we honored WWII
veterans who were flown in a bi-plane out of Chicago Executive Airport
on June 28 2017.
