|| About the Veterans of Foreign Wars
VFW traces its roots back to 1899 when veterans of the Spanish-American
War and the Philippine Insurrection founded local organizations to
secure rights and benefits for their service. These chapters were
merged in 1914 to form the VFW which was incorporated in 1918.
There are currently 1.4 million men and women who belong to the VFW.
About VFW Post 981
Arlington VFW Post 981 on October 5 1922 in Arlington Heights, IL., it is the
oldest VFW post in Illinois.
Regular meetings take place the first Wednesday of every month starting at 7:00 PM
Post 981 has an active program of outings, visits to VA hospitals, and
community events. We raise money for veteran causes through Poppy
sales and sales of
T-shirts, caps and
stickers to the public. We
organize and march in the Arlington Heights
Memorial Day parade, and march in other parades in the suburbs we
represent (Newsletters & Post Activities).
