About the Veterans of Foreign Wars

The VFW traces its roots back to 1899 when veterans of the Spanish-American War and the Philippine Insurrection founded local organizations to secure rights and benefits for their service.  These chapters were merged in 1914 to form the VFW which was incorporated in 1918.  There are currently 1.4 million men and women who belong to the VFW.

About VFW Post 981

Chartered as Arlington VFW Post 981 on October 5 1922 in Arlington Heights, IL., it is the oldest VFW post in Illinois.

Regular meetings take place the first Wednesday of every month starting at 7:00 PM

VFW Post 981 has an active program of member outings, visits to VA hospitals, and community events.  We raise money for veteran causes through Poppy sales and sales of T-shirts, caps and stickers to the public.  You can see us march in the Arlington Heights Memorial Day and 4th of July parades along with other parades in the suburbs we represent (Newsletters & Post Activities).  Below are Post members at the Fox Lake Legion where they helped host an outing for Lovell VA hospital patients.
